Karnataka Saptapadi Vivah Yojana 2022
The Government of Karnataka has started Saptapadi Vivah Yojana on 10th January. Under this mass marriage scheme, the state government will provide Rs 55,000 to the newly married couples. For this help, candidates have to register Karnataka Saptapadi Vivah Yojana in temples.
The Chief Minister of Karnataka has released the logo and pamphlets of the ‘Saptapadi’ mass marriage ceremony. Questions like Saptapadi Vivah Yojna Sahayata how, how and where to register and what is the eligibility criteria are answered in this post. In addition, the state government has twice announced dates for mass marriages that will be held in Grade A temples under the Department of Religious Endowments. All those couples who are going to get married in the next few days can take advantage of Saptapadi Vivah Yojana. The plan is to organize around 1,000 marriages in 90-100 temples.

Saptapadi Marriage Scheme Aid Amount
Under the new mass marriage scheme, the amount of assistance a couple will get in their marriage is as follows:-
- 40,000 rupees mangalsutra for the bride.
- 5,000 in cash to the groom
- 10,000 in cash to the bride
- Total assistance amount (Rs 55000) – The total assistance amount for both the bride and the groom will be Rs 55,000 under the Karnataka Saptapadi Vivah Yojana.
Karnataka Saptapadi Vivah Scheme Eligibility Criteria
All the applicants must fulfill the following eligibility criteria to get the assistance amount under Karnataka Saptapadi Vivah Yojana:-
- Applicant must be a permanent resident of Karnataka state.
- Only those mass marriages which are scheduled to take place in the shortlisted temples are eligible.
- Both parents must attend the ceremony if the couple wishes to receive assistance.
- If the applicants wish to marry without the permission of their parents, those couples are not eligible.
- Also, those who want to do love marriage are not eligible and will not be able to avail the benefits of the scheme.
Karnataka Saptapadi Marriage Scheme Registration
All those couples who wish to tie the knot are expected to register themselves at the temple 30 days before the scheduled date of marriage. Later, a list of all eligible couples will be prepared. Then all the applicants have to get married in the mass marriage ceremony. In the mass marriage program, the state government will provide this assistance under the Saptapadi Vivah Yojana.

The Karnataka state government also informed that the department has shortlisted a few temples where mass marriages will be conducted. CM B.S. Yediyurappa also confirmed that the government would help communities like Muslims and Christians to organize mass marriages as per their respective customs.

The new dates for the mass marriage ceremony have been announced amid the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now the mass marriage ceremony will be held on the following dates:-
- 15 January 2021
- 20 January 2021
- 20 February 2021
- 23 February 2021
All the COVID-19 protocols are to be followed in the mass marriage ceremony. Now only the parents of the bride and groom will be allowed. Initially, the government had announced that mass marriages would take place on April 26 and May 24 this year at 100 state-owned temples across the state.
But due to the pandemic it was postponed to June and July, only to be postponed again till November/December. The government had planned to organize mass marriages of at least 250 couples – that was before the pandemic broke out. Recently only 23 couples got married under this scheme. This is because the government could not get the marriages done as some of the registered couples got married in a private ceremony.
The Karnataka state government has also informed that the department has shortlisted some temples where mass marriages will take place. Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa also confirmed that the government would help communities like Muslims and Christians to organize mass marriages as per their respective customs.
